REBECCA COULSON
CANDIDATE FOR CITY OF DURHAM
It's about time the people of the City of Durham had a local MP who stood up against the deep-running problems we face here. Issues surrounding planning proposals, the balance between student and resident housing, and simple things like potholes have been ignored for too long.
I was born and raised here, the elder child of academics at the University. I attended St Oswald's infants', St Margaret's primary, and Durham Johnston, before studying at Cambridge.
I live and work here: I'm self-employed, and also work for St Chad's College. I run the Caritas Ensemble, which works with local charities to raise funds and awareness. I'm well-connected in the community, and always stand up for what's right. Like you, I know we desperately need change -- and I'm someone who can offer it.
If you vote for me, I will:
Get answers from the Council about the planning proposals which go through regardless of mass opposition
Prevent yet more family-friendly neighbourhoods from being turned into landlord-run student ghettos
Get North Road tidied up -- support local business, clean up the bus station, and address the problem of anti-social drinking
Tidy our parks, and deal with the potholes
