CLAIRE HISCOTT
CANDIDATE FOR BRISTOL WEST
Bristol West deserves a local MP that genuinely understands the needs of its residents and works to make their voice heard in national government.
I have lived and worked in Bristol for over 17 years, raising my family, and being at the heart of my community. My life experiences have shaped my politics and I feel passionately that common sense rather than ideology is what is needed to bring politics back to the people. I have already delivered this approach as a City Councillor since 2013. Known for cutting through rhetoric I have championed the needs of Bristol citizens seeking to bring real and lasting benefits.
A pharmacist by profession, I understand the health priorities in Bristol West because every day I meet constituents in need. I believe a strong flexible NHS is key to providing the best for everyone. As a councillor, I have regularly challenged the Mayor on the city’s strategy for health provision and social care.
Having two teenagers I know the challenges facing education. I was a keen parent volunteer and fundraiser in my children’s schools and am now a governor at a local primary school. Coming from a state Grammar School I believe that excellent education is the key to success for the next generation.
Since becoming a councillor I have sought to promote the economic success of Bristol, particularly fighting for integrated public transport solutions to allow Bristolians to access jobs. I have been fighting for the reopening of local rail stations and the protection of essential bus services.
I have a wealth of life experience, and understand the challenges of normal life. I believe in common sense, get stuff done politics, rather than rhetoric and ideology. I hope to represent Bristol West in Westminster with that straightforward approach.
