Nick Bent
Candidate for Warrington South
Born and brought up in nearby Altrincham, Nick lives in Great Sankey and is actively involved in the local community. Nick is a member of the Warrington Fairtrade Steering Group and is a Friend of Warrington Home-Start. Nick has run the English Half Marathon in Warrington twice now, to raise money for Home-Start, finishing in just under two hours on both occasions (his PB is 1 hour 44 minutes).
Professionally, Nick works part-time for an innovative new education charity that he co-founded in Manchester, The Tutor Trust. He commutes to work each day from Sankey Station. The Tutor Trust’s charitable mission is to democratise tuition – to make top quality tutors in English, Math and Science available to pupils who need some extra academic support and whose parents could not afford a private tutor. The Tutor Trust currently works in over 50 primary and secondary schools in Greater Manchester and delivers 500 hours of tuition ever week.
Nick also spent over a decade working in business, as a consultant and editor on energy and environmental issues. He has also run a think tank in London and for four years he worked in Westminster as Special Adviser to Dame Tessa Jowell MP when she was Secretary of State for Culture and Olympics Minister during the last Labour Government. From 1st September 2011, Nick has begun a three-year appointment as a lay member of the General Assembly of the University of Manchester.
As a keen sports fan, Nick is proud to be a Vice-President of Warrington Town Football Club and a member of the SquadBuilder scheme to help invest in local new player talent at Warrington Wolves Rugby League Club. Nick is a keen gardener, cook and an occasional snowboarder.
