Chris Elmore
Candidate for Vale of Glamorgan
Chris Elmore was selected as the Labour Parliamentary Candidate for the Vale of Glamorgan constituency in July 2013. He has lived in Barry, which is part of the constituency for over 10 years. He has been active in the community throughout his time living in the constituency as a school governor, volunteer at his community centre and board member of organisations such as Barry Communities First, and Barry YMCA Hub.
In 2008, Chris was elected to the Vale of Glamorgan Council, representing Castleland Ward in Barry, making one of only a handful of Labour Gains in the 2008 local elections across Wales. He was re-elected in 2012, and as part of the new Labour-led administration, he was appointed Cabinet Member for Children’s Services and Schools. Since his appointment, he has championed the cause of young people across the constituency developing plans for a Youth Mayor and Cabinet to ensure young people have a real say on the services the Council delivers. He has also been instrumental in moving forward the Councils vision to deliver new school buildings across the area.
In addition to his position at the Vale Council, Chris is a Independent Member of Cardiff and Vale University Health Board, representing Local Government.
Before becoming a full time Councillor and Cabinet Member, Chris worked in a range of roles including retail, further education and supporting politicians in both the National Assembly and Westminster.
Away from politics, in his spare time, Chris enjoys walking, listening to music, sport (watching) and reading autobiographies.
