Born and raised in south west London, the daughter of teachers, Polly graduated from university in a recession. She has waited tables, washed floors, been an usher in her local theatre and worked in a call-centre before becoming a journalist for the BBC. She worked there for 15 years, including reporting for the Today programme and as the first ever dedicated political correspondent for Radio1 Newsbeat. Now she lives in Grays, in the heart of Thurrock, and works for a national charity. She played a key role in Ed Miliband's leadership campaign and worked closely with him on energy and climate change. Show tunes mega-fan.
