Sue Castillon is a mother, grandmother and wife of 47 years; her background is youth and community work of which she gained an MA degree from Brunel University, West London.
She has lived and worked in Portsmouth 21 years and was previously involved in regeneration work after the miner’s strike in the 1980s within the community of Bolsover Derbyshire. She helped raised, alongside Dennis Skinner MP, £100,000 to renovate an old school for community facilities, IT suite, youth club, and arts wing.
In Portsmouth, she has worked for 2 charities a youth counselling agency called Off The Record and Homestart who support vulnerable families and their children under the age of 5. Starting in 2000, she developed and ran her own social enterprise called ALPS accredited learning programmes and trained and accredited volunteers in the community in confidence building, team work, PSHE, preparing for work and developing your own social enterprise. She is currently on Portsmouth City Council’s supplier list as a trainer and has developed and delivered training courses in integrated working and child safe guarding.
In recent years, she has campaigned against closures to the city’s Sure Start centres and the council having a no eviction policy over the bedroom tax. She is standing in this year’s local elections in Paulsgrove ward.
