Judith Bunting
Newbury
Judith first came to the Newbury constituency in the eighties. Directing a film for the BBC about villagers who had to sweep sewage off their kitchen floors every time heavy rain fell, she felt appalled that more was not being done to help.
Twenty years on and now a West Berkshire resident herself Judith is a keen community activist. She has campaigned to help victims of the recent floods, to improve local broadband coverage, and has led a strong campaign to improve educational provision across the constituency.
Judith was born in Peterborough and went to the local girls’ school where she became one of their first pupils in 25 years to attend Cambridge University. She read Natural Sciences at Fitzwilliam College. In her professional life, as a television producer, Judith promoted science and technology for over 20 years, through writing and directing for Tomorrow’s World, Horizon and other series which tracked green technologies from Salter’s Duck to North Sea wind farms, covered medical advances, and promoted the teaching of chemistry in state schools. More recently, working with a Deaf-run production company, Judith has led the team to secure its first mainstream commission: a series for young children presented entirely in British Sign Language (CBeebies, Magic Hands).
Judith’s priorities for Newbury and West Berkshire are to improve funding for schools, as well as to provide better access to public transport and services across the constituency. She is also a strong supporter of investment in research, innovation and enterprise.
