Manchester Withington, Jeff Smith
Jeff Smith was born in Withington Hospital and has lived in the constituency ever since.
Currently the Executive Member for Finance on Manchester City Council, Jeff has previously served as Executive Member for Education and Children’s Services.
Jeff has previously worked as an events manager – running concerts, clubs and festivals and then as a DJ in nightclubs around the UK.
He is a governor at Old Moat Primary School, where he was once a pupil, and he played a key part in getting funding for a rebuild of the school. He is now also a governor at Parrs Wood High School, where he has been part of the team that successfully turned the school round after it went into special measures.
Jeff has a keen interest in housing issues, and is a member of the board of Southway, the local housing trust.
Thoroughly rooted in the community, he is passionate about creating educational opportunities and raising aspiration for Manchester's young people.
As a Councillor, Jeff has been the key figure behind the introduction of the Manchester living wage for Council staff, and campaigns for its implementation by other employers in Manchester.
An avid football fan, Jeff has been a season ticket holder at Manchester City for many years.
