Edinburgh West, Cammy Day

Having spent most of his early career working with young people as a youth worker, Cammy was elected onto Edinburgh Council in November 2008 to represent the Forth Ward.

He stood for election to the Edinburgh West Constituency in 2010 and secured the biggest swing to Labour in the UK. He had decided to put himself forward again for 2015 as he still strongly believes that Edinburgh West deserves better.

Cammy is currently the Vice-convenor of the Health, Wellbeing and Housing Committee on Edinburgh Council and is proud to represent constituents in the city he grew up in and cares passionately about.
Given his youth worker background, Cammy continues to work with young people from across Edinburgh, helping support them to challenge social injustices and to find their voice, often via his support of the Scottish Youth Parliament.

Since 2012, as part of the Capital's coalition, Cammy is delighted that he was able to help in the delivery of the Living Wage for all council workers in the City. He has been working hard on securing innovative and affordable new housing and continues to champion this cause within his portfolio.

Locally, he has been busy in supporting environmental issues such as tackling nuisance neighbours and dog fouling. Cammy is also very determined to tackle homelessness in the city and personally invests a great deal of time on this issue, both inside and outside of work. He has spoken at homelessness conferences and recently camped out with Rock Trust overnight to experience the situation first-hand and to learn more about what could be done. He is out campaigning locally every week, asking residents about what issues matter to them.

Outside of politics, Cammy is a keen cyclist and runner.
