Bristol North West, Darren Jones
Darren Jones is the prospective Labour Member of Parliament for Bristol North West.
Darren is a lawyer by profession and practices law as a technology solicitor at the Bristol office of a national law firm. Prior to qualifying as a solicitor Darren worked in the NHS for over five years, including at GP surgeries in Southmead and Henbury.
Darren lives in Shirehampton having been born at Southmead Hospital and raised in Lawrence Weston. If elected in 2015 Darren will become the first MP for Bristol North West to have been born and raised in the constituency.
Darren has a particular interest in bringing schools and businesses together to help get young people into work, this being a personal passion of his given his own experiences growing up and being the first in his family to go to University. He has set up the Bristol Schools Business Forum to help promote cooperation between employers and educators and runs a successful schools mentoring programme between his former secondary school in Shirehampton and his law firm. He is also campaigning on some of the major cost of living crisis issues that families face in Bristol, including childcare and housing costs, and is campaigning for reform of politics to make politicians more open, accountable and transparent to voters.
Locally, Darren has been the Chair of Governors at his former primary school Avon Primary School, a Director of the Shirehampton Community Action Forum, a trustee of the North Bristol Advice Centre in Lockleaze and is currently a Business Mentor for the Prince's Trust, mentoring young people starting up their own businesses in Bristol.
