Julian Brazil
Totnes
Julian Brazil lives and works in the local area. He has experience as the finance director for the family printing business, an environment researcher at Westminster and a former science teacher in South Devon.
Julian stood in Totnes at the last general election and is a local County and District Councillor. He has built a reputation as a hard working local campaigner. At the last election he called for a change in the name of the constituency to Brixham & Totnes in order to reflect the largest town.
His top priorities are local housing and local jobs. At the same time he has campaigned vigorously to oppose the building of 100’s and 1000’s of open market houses in the South Devon countryside arguing that the housing need is for local working families not holiday or second homes nor people wishing to retire down here.
As a Councillor Julian been much involved in the setting up and running of ‘arms length’ trading companies owned by public bodies. This has included NPS South West which is a joint venture owned by Devon and Norfolk County Councils which runs the property services for the County. He was part of the Commercial Services Committee on the Devon and Somerset Fire Authority which helps to run the Authority’s trading company Red One. Julian has recently also become Chairman of the Salcombe Harbour Board for the second time. There have been huge improvements to the Harbour infrastructure and facilities, all of which support the crucial tourist industry. This is all funded by harbour users many of which are locals who enjoy significantly lower prices than commercially run harbours. Without share holders to pay, locals benefit from a well run public authority owned organisation at no cost to the taxpayer.
Julian plays cricket and euchre for the village and is captain of the pub’s darts team.
