About Yvonne Fovargue
Cutting my teeth as a Housing Officer on the Moss Side estate, Manchester in the early 1980s and later in my role as Chief Executive of St Helens Citizens Advice Bureau, a role I held for over 20 years, I have worked all my life to fight injustice and to speak up for those without a voice in society.
Born in Sale, I was educated locally before gaining a BA in English at Leeds University. An elected member of Warrington Council (2004-2010) I have also served as a school governor and charity trustee.
My political interests include Welfare Reform, Health, Third Sector and Personal Finance. I am Chair of the All Party Parliamentary Group on Debt & Personal Finance and Chair of the All Party Legal Aid Group.
I am also secretary of the All Party Group for Rugby League.
I was elected to Parliament at the 2010 General Election.
I was promoted to Labour’s Front-bench in October 2011, joining the Whip’s Office. I am also an active campaigner and advocate for Credit Unions.
I am married with one adult daughter and I am also a grandmother. I live in Winstanley, Wigan with my husband.
