MEMBER OF PARLIAMENT FOR HORNCHURCH AND UPMINSTER

Angela had an East End working class upbringing, passed the 11 plus and attended Wanstead County High School. Exposed to political debate during childhood she developed a desire to be at the sharp end rather than leave it to others. Angela has worked in a city bank, a special school and several local authorities, whilst studying for a degree in Business Administration. Angela moved to Upminster in 1965. Her 3 children attended Upminster schools. She is a member of Trinity Church, Patron of Romford Autistic Group Support, the Havering Branch of Diabetes UK and is an Ambassador for Guiding. She also awards her Musicality Prize annually at Havering Young Musician of the Year. She has held elected office at Havering Council and Essex County Council. She entered Parliament in 2001, winning the Upminster constituency, and increasing her majority from 1,242 to 16,384 over 3 elections. Angela’s interests outside work include family, theatre, ballet, reading, and an addiction to Sudoku.
