PETER LILLEY
MEMBER OF PARLIAMENT FOR HITCHIN AND HARPENDEN
After graduating from Cambridge in Natural Sciences followed by Economics, Peter worked as an Economist in Developing Countries then became Energy Analyst and Partner of a leading City Investment firm.
He entered Parliament for St Albans in 1983 and since boundary changes in 1997 represents Hitchin and Harpenden. He became a Treasury Minister in 1987, joined Mrs Thatcher’s cabinet in 1990 as Secretary of State for Trade and Industry then for Social Security from 1992 to 1997. He stood for the Conservative Leadership in 1997; becoming Shadow Chancellor then Deputy Leader of the Conservative Party Responsible for Policy Renewal until 2000. He chaired the Party’s Global Poverty Policy Commission advised by Bob Geldof in 2006-10.
Following the financial crisis he Chaired the Joint Committee of both Houses on Reform of the Financial Services legislation and was elected to the Select Committee on Energy and Climate Change in 2012. He is Vice Chairman of Tethys Petroleum and Director of IDOX plc.
